gallery breeding colony

LSA 279 - breeding room. A separate cooling system allows for lowering the temperature to that of the natural breeding season in the mountains of Arizona. Two breeding seasons occur in the lab: one in Spring, the natural season, and one in Fall, which was artificially induced by manipulating the photoperiod and temperature over a period of several years. The room is also used for holding hatchlings and larvae up to 6 months old between the breeding seasons.
